What is a CRS Score?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system used by IRCC to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. Your CRS score is calculated from four core human capital factors β€” age, education, language proficiency, and Canadian/foreign work experience β€” plus additional factors like a valid job offer, provincial nomination, or Canadian sibling.

200
Points for a qualifying LMIA job offer (NOC 0/A/B)

How to Use This Calculator

  1. 1
    Enter your age

CRS points for age peak at 20–29 years old (110 points without a spouse). Points decrease gradually after 30.

  2. 2
    Select your education level

A completed Master's degree or PhD gives the highest points. Ensure your foreign degree is ECA-assessed if applying outside Canada.

  3. 3
    Enter your language scores

IELTS and CELPIP scores convert to CLB levels. CLB 9+ in all four skills is required for maximum language points. A second official language (French/English) adds bonus points.

  4. 4
    Add work experience

Canadian work experience (TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3) earns more points than foreign experience. One year of Canadian experience adds up to 40 points (core) plus skills transferability bonuses.

  5. 5

Compare your estimated score against recent Express Entry draw cut-offs. If below current thresholds, review our guide on how to improve your CRS score.

⚠️ Important: This calculator provides an estimate only. IRCC calculates your official CRS score through the official Express Entry portal at canada.ca. Actual scores may vary depending on how IRCC interprets your qualifications.

What Is the CRS Score?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to rank candidates inside the Express Entry pool. The higher your CRS score, the better your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian Permanent Residence.

CRS points are awarded based on four core factors: age, education, language ability (English and/or French), and work experience (both inside and outside Canada). Additional points are available for job offers, provincial nominations, Canadian sibling ties, and French-language skills.

How the CRS Score Is Calculated

The maximum CRS score is 1,200 points. Most candidates without a job offer or PNP nomination score between 400 and 550. The score is divided into the following sections:

Ways to Improve Your CRS Score

Frequently Asked Questions

What CRS score do I need to get an ITA?

Cut-off scores vary per draw. All-program draws have historically ranged from 470 to 530. Category-based draws (for healthcare, STEM, trades, etc.) tend to have lower cut-offs, sometimes in the 430–470 range. Use our calculator to estimate your score then track live draw results on IRCC's website.

Does a higher IELTS score significantly increase my CRS?

Yes β€” language is one of the biggest contributors to your score. Moving from CLB 7 to CLB 9 across all four bands can add 30–50+ CRS points. It is one of the most cost-effective ways to increase your score.

How often does IRCC run Express Entry draws?

IRCC typically runs draws every two weeks, but frequency can vary. Draws may target specific categories like healthcare workers, STEM professionals, French-language speakers, or trades workers, each with different cut-off scores.

Is this CRS calculator accurate?

This tool provides a simplified estimate based on the main scoring categories. For the most precise calculation, use the official IRCC CRS tool on Canada.ca. Small differences can occur due to spouse factors, partial CLB scores, or ECA details.
