The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system used by IRCC to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. Your CRS score is calculated from four core human capital factors β age, education, language proficiency, and Canadian/foreign work experience β plus additional factors like a valid job offer, provincial nomination, or Canadian sibling.
| Factor | Without Partner (max) | With Partner (max) |
|---|---|---|
| Age | 110 pts | 100 pts |
| Education | 150 pts | 140 pts |
| First language (CLB) | 136 pts | 128 pts |
| Second language | 24 pts | 22 pts |
| Canadian work experience | 80 pts | 70 pts |
| Spouse/partner factors | β | 40 pts |
| Skills transferability | 100 pts (combined) | |
| Additional factors (job offer, PNP, study in Canada...) | Up to 600 pts (PNP) | |
CRS points for age peak at 20β29 years old (110 points without a spouse). Points decrease gradually after 30.
A completed Master's degree or PhD gives the highest points. Ensure your foreign degree is ECA-assessed if applying outside Canada.
IELTS and CELPIP scores convert to CLB levels. CLB 9+ in all four skills is required for maximum language points. A second official language (French/English) adds bonus points.
Canadian work experience (TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3) earns more points than foreign experience. One year of Canadian experience adds up to 40 points (core) plus skills transferability bonuses.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to rank candidates inside the Express Entry pool. The higher your CRS score, the better your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian Permanent Residence.
CRS points are awarded based on four core factors: age, education, language ability (English and/or French), and work experience (both inside and outside Canada). Additional points are available for job offers, provincial nominations, Canadian sibling ties, and French-language skills.
The maximum CRS score is 1,200 points. Most candidates without a job offer or PNP nomination score between 400 and 550. The score is divided into the following sections:
Select your age bracket, education level, IELTS scores for all four bands (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking), Canadian and foreign work experience, and any additional factors like a job offer, PNP nomination, or family in Canada. The tool converts your IELTS scores to CLB levels automatically and gives you a quick estimated score. Note this is a simplified estimate β the official IRCC calculator accounts for more detail.
Cut-off scores vary per draw. All-program draws have historically ranged from 470 to 530. Category-based draws (for healthcare, STEM, trades, etc.) tend to have lower cut-offs, sometimes in the 430β470 range. Use our calculator to estimate your score then track live draw results on IRCC's website.
Yes β language is one of the biggest contributors to your score. Moving from CLB 7 to CLB 9 across all four bands can add 30β50+ CRS points. It is one of the most cost-effective ways to increase your score.
IRCC typically runs draws every two weeks, but frequency can vary. Draws may target specific categories like healthcare workers, STEM professionals, French-language speakers, or trades workers, each with different cut-off scores.
This tool provides a simplified estimate based on the main scoring categories. For the most precise calculation, use the official IRCC CRS tool on Canada.ca. Small differences can occur due to spouse factors, partial CLB scores, or ECA details.
